We had the lord nelson suite, a spacious room in a lovely hotel, and the staff were friendly and helpful. There are two windows, but they overlook the pub garden and main road. On a warm, busy evening it can get noisy if you’re hoping for an early night. There’s no air conditioning, so you have to rely on the breeze to cool the room. Breakfast was lovely, with plenty of variety.

The bar has a lovely historic feel, with a great range of drinks and quick service. We popped in for dinner and were really impressed: the steak was cooked perfectly and the staff were very attentive. Highly recommend!

There’s plenty of parking, and the location worked perfectly for us: in Milford Haven, just above the port, below the high street and close to some nice waterfront promenades. Martins Haven, where you catch the Skomer Ferry, is a 25 minute drive away. Tenby is in the other direction, a colourful seaside town. The hotel is beautifully decorated, quiet, and has very comfortable beds and a great breakfast. It was just right for what we needed.

This is a lovely base for exploring the coast, with a relaxed, friendly feel throughout. I stayed for two nights and loved it. The old building is beautiful, while the rooms feel modern and well cared for. I’ll definitely stay again.

We’ve had Sunday lunch at the Nelson three times now and run into the same problems each visit, so I felt I had to leave a review. The service has been poor every time. Today our table was booked for 1pm, but food didn’t arrive until well after 2. It was lukewarm, and the vegetables that eventually came with it weren’t enough for the nine people who ordered roast dinners. By then, our food was cold. We asked for more veg, but it arrived after we’d finished. The place didn’t look busy, so there’s no excuse. We’d already been there two and a half hours when we had to leave, and some people at our table were only then getting their puddings. I won’t be rushing back.
