Hallgarth Manor House, Signature Collection

The restaurant is a real highlight, with high-quality ingredients, lovely presentation and a mix of traditional and modern dishes. Sunday lunch was especially good, with generous portions and plenty of flavour. Staff are friendly, attentive and clearly take pride in their work, and the service ran smoothly from check-in to the restaurant. Hallgarth Manor in Pittington has a beautiful countryside setting, with immaculate grounds that are lovely to stroll around or use for wedding photos. The country house has plenty of character, with historic features alongside modern touches. Inside, the décor feels elegant but still warm and welcoming. Whether you’re coming for a meal, a wedding, a weekend stay or just a quiet drink in the bar, it’s a brilliant choice for a peaceful break close to Durham. Highly recommended.

I felt I should leave a review after seeing some negative feedback online. There were five adults in our group for a birthday meal at 5:30 on a Thursday. The staff were really friendly, and the food tasted great. I had the pie with chunky chips, vegetables and gravy, then a lovely sticky toffee pudding.

Rooms: not applicable. The Sunday lunch was out of this world, wow. Best roast I’ve had in ages.

It was my first stay here, and the staff were amazing from check-in right through to the end. They were so helpful and nothing was too much trouble. The room was nicely decorated and had everything I needed for one night, though it was a little small, especially the shower. I’ll look at staying here again on my work trips. Thanks for the lovely, professional service.
