We went for a hike straight from the doorstep, with Black Combe right there, and the coast close by too. The Wayside & Whisky Barn is in a quiet village and made a beautiful, peaceful base for our Lake District break. Emiko was welcoming and attentive, full of useful local knowledge, and a great cook. Our room was spacious, spotless and thoughtfully equipped. Tea, coffee, biscuits and water were complimentary and replenished daily. The food was locally sourced, carefully prepared and genuinely good value. Just the sort of calm, scenic getaway we were hoping to find.

We slept wonderfully after long days out walking, and the lounge and dining area had easy chairs around the fireplace. The bedroom was spacious, with good linen and a well-appointed bathroom. Emiko, the host and cook, made the place extremely comfortable. There's an impressive whisky bar, with hundreds from Scotland, Ireland and Japan, and Emiko knows a lot about them. Breakfast was excellent, with cereal, yoghurt, seeds, a good croissant and coffee, plus a good fry-up. Packed lunches were just as good, with sandwiches, fruit and crisps. With advance notice, Emiko will cook a very enjoyable three-course dinner, and there's a small but lovely wine list. This lovely B&B sits on the Cumbrian west coast at the foot of Black Combe. Our bedroom window looked straight up the mountain, and the coast is a stone's throw away. A private greenway starts at the back door and leads to Black Combe. There are plenty of walks around the foothills and the England Coast Path nearby. A 10-minute train ride from Silecroft station takes you to Ravenglass and access to the Eskdale Valley. You can also walk to Boot.

The whisky bar was a dream for a whisky lover, and we loved the peaceful setting and homemade breakfast. From the doorstep, we could head out on trails for beach or mountain runs, with breathtaking views along the way. Our hosts were warm, friendly and very attentive. They sent us thorough information before and during the stay, which made everything easy. The cottage was so well organised, with nothing missing. Just watch your head around the low doorways. We'd love to come back.

Breakfast each morning was a treat, locally sourced, home baked and beautifully presented. The whisky bar was far beyond what we expected, too. We loved the quiet, serene setting, the jaw-dropping views and the choice of trails starting right at the doorstep, whether for a beach jog or a mountain hike. The cottage was fully equipped, so much so that you could move in and stay. Information from the first contact was spot on and made settling in easy. Our hosts were wonderful, thoughtful and always available. It was an unforgettable stay, and we're already planning to return.

The waterfall and mountain right outside, with the beach just five minutes away, made the setting gorgeous. We stayed at the wayside and whiskey barn on the weekend of 17th May, after my daughter and her partner had recommended it from their visit a few years back. Our room was amazing, and breakfast was a treat, especially the homemade beans and bread. EMI was so welcoming and couldn’t do enough for us. It was a lovely tonic for my husband and me, and we’ll definitely be back. Thank you to the wayside ❤️ Karl & Gracie xx
