Lunch with my family was a disappointment. We used to find it friendly here, but this time we felt uncomfortable and watched. A man who seemed to be a regular at the bar was asked to pay an extra 10p by card after the barman had already charged him for his ale, then realised the payment was short by that amount. We were shocked, but our food had already been ordered so we stayed. Since we’d missed lunch by a few minutes, there were only about six dishes to choose from, and the food was just okay. We ordered one drink each, but only three of the four arrived. The barman said we’d only ordered three and insisted the fourth had to be paid for immediately. He brought the card machine over, as if he wouldn’t even start making the missing coffee until we paid. We explained that the way he handled it came across as rude, and then someone brought us three tiny biscuits. As we were leaving, I heard a receptionist shout information about cream teas at other customers in a way that made them sound like naughty children. Sadly, I won’t return unless things change.

We had a lovely Saturday lunch in a beautiful place, with an open fireplace. The food was good, though I expected a wider menu. There was no steak, and the nearest option was a burger, which was good.

We stayed for a couple of days with our dog, and the staff were lovely. Special thanks to the two people serving breakfast. They had dog treats out on both mornings and even gave our dog a sausage. The food was lovely too. A great stay, and a credit to all the staff.

We visited on January 3rd, drawn in by the charming exterior, but left very disappointed. We were the first customers there, yet it felt as if we were being treated as less important. The tables around us had placemats and napkins, while our cutlery was just dropped in the middle of the table wrapped in a napkin. We watched staff lay out the neighbouring tables properly for later arrivals, but we never got placemats. The room was very cold. When we raised it, staff said the heating was automatic and didn’t try to help. The fish and chips were greasy, too. It was an upsetting, uncomfortable visit, and we didn’t feel valued as customers.
