The young woman serving behind the bar was such a pleasure, and the chef was great too. She really restored my faith in young people. My husband and I ate here yesterday, and it was one of the best meals ever. I had the curried carrot soup, then the delicious haddock in the lightest batter I've ever had. My husband chose the fish massala and homemade pie. We'll make the trip from Wakefield again soon.

We were lucky enough to win the Christmas draw, and the meal was amazing. The belly pork was a highlight, and the rib eye steak was one of the nicest we've had in a long time, cooked perfectly. The cocktails were handmade too, which was a refreshing change and made them well worth trying. We'd definitely recommend both the food and cocktails.

The beer was on top form, the service was friendly, and the beer garden is unbelievable. I've wanted to visit this pub for ages, and it lived up to the wait. A great pub, definitely among my top five in Yorkshire.

The pub has a great atmosphere for drinks, but it didn't feel set up as a restaurant. It was my first time eating there and nobody explained how food service worked, so it came across as an afterthought. The lamb Sunday lunch itself was technically very good, and staff were friendly, but several things went wrong on our visit on Sun 5 Oct 2025 at 1630. Our meal had been given to another table, so we waited a long time. The kids' food did arrive first after that wait, thankfully. Since the vegetables come in a separate bowl, the four adults got just one small bowl, and it arrived about 15 minutes after the main plates. We were seated by a roaring fire even though it wasn't that cold, and the kids had to take layers off while the rest of us were sweating. We think we paid for five puddings, but the server said it was four. We should have asked for a receipt: they told us to order pudding after the main course but pay for everything upfront. The extra one was two scoops of ice cream for a child, so we weren't going to argue, though it was another thing that didn't seem right. Our friends had highly recommended the place after several good visits, and perhaps on another day the food and service would line up better. Today it missed the mark. I also find it expensive, though I'm a tight Yorkshire man and others may disagree.

A clever layout: the sports side has a big tele and bench seating, while the other bit is for talking. Even with a game on, it keeps the atmosphere nice. Good pub.
