Moffat Independent Hostel

It’s just a short walk to town, with a good range of shops and restaurants. We had the superior quad room, which was lovely, with comfy bunks and bedding and a spotless bathroom. The communal areas are great, and we spent much of the evening playing pool. An amazing hostel, more like a hotel where you cook together.

The owner was amazing and accommodating when we messed up our booking, sorting it out even though he didn’t have to. The house is beautiful, with quirky décor and spacious communal areas, especially the pool table room, where you can play great vinyls. The rooms are comfy and homely. It’s one of the most wonderful places I’ve stayed in the UK, and we’ll certainly come back and recommend it to others.

Tom was a very welcoming host, and the bedrooms and kitchen had lovely personal touches. The kitchen was clean and well equipped. We enjoyed the communal living room and its record player, too. The location is convenient, just a short drive into town. We had a great stay and will definitely stop over next time we travel to the north West of Scotland.

I came here alone for a week-long writing retreat, hoping for fewer distractions and lovely scenery for walks between writing sessions. I got loads done with the hills behind my laptop. The place was peaceful and quiet, and I loved the cosy fireplace in the dining room and being able to use the kitchen. The internet was very fast, which made research easy. I’d highly recommend it to writers or anyone who wants to get things done.
