The Shipping Lanes Hotel

Trudi understood my mobility issues and put us on the ground floor, which was handy when we were taking our big dog in and out. We didn’t have a sea view, but the bed was comfortable and we slept well for three nights. There were two comfy seats, a table and a Freeview TV in the room. The breakfasts were lovely. We both ordered the same thing each day so we wouldn’t risk missing out on the high standard, and it was delicious, beautifully cooked and served just how we liked it. The owners were generous with their help, lending us umbrellas, letting us use towels to dry the dog, and drying our wet clothes and towels after we came back soaked. We spent a long weekend at The Shipping Lanes in Morecambe, and the kind weather helped. The spacious, clean rooms, welcoming owners and good food made the stay all the better. On our last day we visited some favourite spots in the Lakes. I’d recommend the hotel as a good base for exploring the region.

Update 2025. Trudy and Alan are still lovely and welcoming, and the hotel remains comfortable, clean and homey. They no longer offer a full English, but now serve a full continental with fresh juices, berries and yogurts, plus a cooked addition from a small selection. I chose bacon, poached eggs and hollandaise sauce. Scrumptious! On my earlier stay, I booked a few days in the Trafalgar room at The Shipping Lanes. It had a private balcony overlooking Morecambe bay, and the place had a homey feel, with lots of care put into the decor. The family of Great Tits in the roof would sing me awake and fly down to keep me company. Trudi and Alan were incredibly welcoming, friendly and full of useful local information. The breakfast was absolutely amazing. Highly recommended.

We stayed with family at The Shipping Lanes Hotel recently, and wow, what an amazing place. Trudi and Alan are wonderful hosts who really can’t do enough for you. The bedrooms are spacious and comfortable, and the hotel is spotlessly clean with impeccable decor. There are relaxing chairs where you can enjoy the fabulous bay views over morning coffee, as well as a lovely bar area. The food was fantastic. We can’t praise the hotel enough and will definitely visit again.
