Manor House Hotel

Lindsey was especially friendly and attentive, and the service throughout was unhurried, which made the meal feel even more relaxed. We had a lovely time at the Manor House Hotel restaurant, with its pretty setting and warm atmosphere. The food was flavourful, nicely presented, and the menu seemed thoughtfully put together. A good choice for a special occasion or an easy-going dinner. I'd gladly return.

We booked a table in the bar because we had our dog with us. The food was good quality, but the portions were tiny for the price. Service was poor too. Our waiter was afraid of dogs, said he'd been bitten three times, and seemed visibly uncomfortable around ours, even though it was asleep under the table. He more or less dropped the food off and backed away. I thought the restaurant manager might send someone else, but the same waiter kept serving us with the same attitude. There were long gaps between courses and an unacceptable wait for the bill. Eventually I went to the bar and said we'd leave if it didn't arrive soon. That got it moving. We paid £160 and left hungry, and didn't leave a tip.

Cosy and warm throughout despite the chilly October weather, and dogs are welcome, with even a sausage offered at breakfast. The rooms were clean and nicely equipped, including Molton Brown toiletries. We found the hotel beautiful, the food delicious, the drinks menu excellent, and the staff friendly and attentive. A real gem, and we'll definitely be back.

This was our third stay in 18 months, and the standard has slipped. The rooms are nice and the bed was comfortable, but the food was the letdown. Four full English breakfasts arrived lukewarm at best, and the toast wasn't toasted. Dinner was worse: bland, mean portions, and far too expensive for what we got. The local pub the next night was much better for taste, portion size and price. We won't return.
