Woodlands Hall Hotel

We found this place on our first visit to the area after family moved nearby, and we’ll be back. The room was lovely, the food was really good, and the bar was great. Our granddaughter had a brilliant time in the indoor play area. Thanks to Nick and the team!

The area is lovely, especially if you can enjoy the view from a warm, cosy room. But I don’t know whether this hotel is better in summer, because it wasn’t heated properly for a place open in winter. Dinner was too salty for me and wasn’t good because of it. Breakfast didn’t happen at all, even though I’d spoken with the hotel beforehand and discussed it.

The owner was ready to take our breakfast order as soon as we came downstairs, and the sausages were out of this world. The staff were so friendly and helpful. Our room seemed to have been recently renovated to a high standard, and it was spotless and warm, especially on those cold mornings. We’ll definitely stay again.

The place itself is lovely and has plenty of potential, but our Sunday lunch visit missed the mark. Staff seemed inexperienced. The starter was tasty, though it didn’t look like the menu description. The roast was good, but the meat was overcooked for my taste and the gravy was cold all over the food. It wouldn’t take much to make the experience fabulous.
