Cwmwennol Country House

We were made to feel welcome as soon as we arrived, and breakfast was really tasty. The rooms were clean and very good, with homemade cookies and fudge left on the beds. The gardens look as though they were beautiful once and could be again, though they need some work, and the outside could use a fresh coat of paint. We'd come back.

The beach is just a few minutes away on foot, and there’s also a pleasant woodland walk nearby. We stayed for one night and were greeted like old friends by the lady in charge. Our room was bigger than we expected, with a nice ensuite and a good, steady shower. From the room, we could see both woods and sea, and it was quiet at night apart from the usual sounds of other guests. There’s a bar at the property that opens for a few hours in the evening. Breakfast was good, and the ordering system was efficient, so we got exactly what we wanted. They also provided lactose-free milk especially for us. The grounds could use some attention, though they must have been lovely at one time.

The service was pleasant, and the property sits in a nice spot a little way out of town. It’s an interesting contrast with the hotels and B&Bs we’ve stayed in on this trip. The whole place feels very 1970s and could really use a makeover. If you can, avoid room 1. It’s a very small double with no view, steps down into the bedroom and steps back up to the bathroom. A very odd layout! Breakfast was pleasant, and the service there was too. The bar is a strange idea, to be fair, with so few customers it must be hard to make worthwhile. It has no real view and no obvious seating area. Dated, but quirky.

We loved the daily walks through the woods and the sea views from this beautiful spot. Breakfast was generous every day, and the Sunday evening lamb roast was a lovely surprise. Compliments to the chef. The owners and staff were friendly, and we’ll definitely book again. Magical. Thank you Roy.
