We came back today just because the tartar sauce was that good! We’d stumbled across this place while doing a job in a local village, and the food and service have been so good. The pie and fish and chips were seriously amazing, proper grub. The young chap behind the bar is lovely and friendly too.

The staff at the bar and on the floor were great, and the pub itself felt welcoming. The meal was another story. My gammon was dried out, the two fried eggs were so hard I couldn't eat them, and my wife's frozen wings were mostly crumb, with watery ready-made coleslaw. The chips tasted like they'd been cooked in very old oil. They offered us one free pudding if we ordered them, but we passed after asking whether the chef had made them and being told yes.

Martin and his team were lovely, and it's great that the place welcomes pets. Their mission statement sounded pretty bold to me at first, but they've won me over. I'm already booking another stay!

A pleasant little pub, though a couple of our pints tasted of beer line cleaner, so we sent them back. I ended up with a bad stomach afterwards. Hopefully they get it sorted before our next visit.

The room was clean and had tea and coffee making bits, with towels provided. I was unsure about it at first: there was a gap beneath the door and another where the lock had been changed, and one of the windows above the door wouldn't shut properly. We could hear everything outside, especially people sitting at the back of the pub. The noise was manageable until about 11 or 11:30, when people started heading off. The bed was fairly comfortable, though I'd have preferred a headboard instead of the wall, and blinds over the door windows to keep outside light out. That's just my preference. We were there for one night while visiting the AllAboutDogs show. Parking behind the building was easy, and a woman sitting outside pointed us towards the bar. The woman behind it was pleasant, checked us in, arranged breakfast and showed us to the room. We had a look around, then went back to the pub for tea. The staff were friendly, and although the menu was small, there was still a decent choice for a pub that size. The food was lovely: I had the Nelson burger and my partner had the belly pork, and we'd recommend both. We slept well enough and breakfast was delicious. Two women welcomed us and took us to a table; we were offered tea or coffee and could help ourselves to juice and cereal. I also had a nice chat with the woman at the bar while we waited. We packed up, left the room tidy and put the key in the box on our way out. It's a lovely village pub, dog friendly, with great staff and food.
