Disgusting behaviour. A man said he'd paid for the pool table, then grabbed my vape. When I asked for it back, he refused, and an argument followed because I didn't know him and wanted my vape before he started having a go at me. Security came over, but the man got in my face and threatened to smash my teeth and face in. I told him to go ahead, then I was dragged outside and told to wait while they checked CCTV. They didn't check it. The manager came out and said it was my fault. Someone else shouted something unkind, which was blamed on me, and then the other man came out and blamed me too, saying I'd had too much to drink. The manager didn't want to hear my side because the man was a “regular” and put money in their pocket. He came outside and threatened me again. My mum got involved, but the manager just walked away, like she couldn't care less. A small blonde staff member later said we would have been let back in if someone hadn't sworn at us, even though that wasn't anyone in our group. Again, they wouldn't listen. Highly unprofessional. I'd strongly suggest staying away. They seemed more interested in keeping money in their pocket than keeping women safe.

The people running the place are lovely, and it's well placed for walking to the centre and nearby amenities. Everything was very clean. It was handy to have a wash basin in the bedroom, since the single rooms don't have en-suites. There's a separate lounge and breakfast room, and the continental breakfast had a good range: cereals, orange juice, filter coffee made to order, scrambled eggs, toast and more. Parking was easy, with free timed street parking out front and private spaces at the back. I've stayed twice, in rooms 2 and 3. Both were spotless, though if I'm being picky, they need some basic maintenance: a cracked mirror and wall staining in room 2, plus ceiling stains in room 3. I'd recommend it and stay again.

A clean room, pleasant staff, an easy check-in and plenty of parking. It's also very well placed for finding food and drink. A cheap, budget B&B that worked well for a quick stop on the way to the Lake District.
