The two young staff members were brilliant, polite and welcoming, which made the disappointing meal more frustrating. We ordered two Chicken Kievs, but got breaded whole chicken breasts with no garlic in the middle or anywhere on the plate. The mash seemed stale and as if it had been sitting out. The steak from the specials board looked burnt on the outside, and its fries were overcooked. We’d booked an evening table because it was our first visit, but the food let us down.

The hotel was being refurbished, so things were run from the pub across the road. That actually made the stay even nicer: everyone there, staff and customers alike, was so friendly, and the pub had the warm, cosy village feel you’d hope for in Shrivenham. The service was outstanding. Thanks for a great stay, we’ll definitely return and recommend it.

We had several guests stay overnight, and they were comfortable and enjoyed the generous breakfast. For our big family occasion in June 2025, Naomi and her team arranged a freshly prepared, home-cooked hot buffet for more than thirty people. The food was lovely, with delicious choices and care taken over dietary requirements. Naomi was a wonderful host and very helpful as we planned the menu. We had plenty of room in the conservatory, lots of tea and coffee, and friendly, helpful staff. We were delighted with the lunch at The Barrington Arms, right in the heart of Shrivenham village. Thank you to everyone at The Barrington!

We’ve eaten here twice lately, once for dinner with a colleague and once for Sunday lunch with friends and dogs, and both meals were spot on. The Sunday menu kept things simple with four choices: lamb shank, roast beef, chicken or veggie. Portions were good, the Yorkies were great, and the vegetables were cooked just how I like them, not mushy but not crunchy. There’s a good drinks selection too, and the staff were friendly and efficient. The recently refitted bar is now bright, clean, spacious and comfortable. I asked for a quiet table when booking with the dogs, and they’d already put a water bowl by it and a rug down for our old boy on the wooden floor. I’m struggling to find fault, highly recommend.

We’ll be back! The room was lovely, the shower was great, and breakfast was very nice. The staff were friendly and helpful, and I really liked the bar area. Had a fabulous stay.
