The Victoria

The visit was disappointing from start to finish. It was cold inside, and we had to put our coats back on. People at the other tables were wearing theirs too. Service was slow, with a 30-minute wait even though only three tables were waiting for food. The cider I ordered arrived flat, and I was told it was supposed to be. Portions were small, the chips were cold, and I was handed a hot plate with a warning that it wasn’t too hot. I nearly dropped it. The third meal, seabass, arrived after the other two at our table had been eaten. The potatoes and prawns were stone cold. The same plate came back with the food scalding hot, but the prawns were rubbery and shrivelled, clearly microwaved. There was less than a teaspoon of peas, and the hollandaise had split. I didn’t see a chef in the kitchen, just a cook, and overheard staff talking about trouble getting staff. Photos wouldn’t show just how poor the quality was, otherwise I’d upload them.

Thanks for making room for us after my Dad's wake on Friday 16th January 2026. The food was lovely, and everyone has commented on how nice it was. Staff were all friendly and easy to approach. We’ll be back when things are a bit more normal 🙏❤️🙏 Clare & Family xxx

Marta and the team gave me a warm welcome every time, and there’s a great atmosphere. The food is fantastic quality for a very reasonable price. I had lots of changes to my booking, but they sorted everything out without any fuss. Nothing seemed too much trouble. Thank you.

The app ordering has been a worrying experience for me. When you add food, it often tries to order the mains again. The vegetarian food has also been hit and miss. On 24 June 2023, my salad was missing ingredients, and the vegetarian meal was below par. It was very quiet, but the service felt a bit lacklustre too. On 19 Oct 2024, I visited with my father in law. The bar and waiting staff were excellent as always, but the food standard seems to be dropping rapidly. There are so few filling vegetarian options with much flavour that I went back to fish and chips again. Yet again, the fish was overcooked. The same thing happened on our previous visit, and when the waitress asked if it was alright, she said several had been sent back that lunchtime. I wonder if it’s a kitchen staffing problem, or if the frozen battered fish they use is just poor quality? Earlier, the food was great and our whole party enjoyed it. That visit was another excellent experience, and I love coming here.
