The breakfast team kindly made me Quorn veggie sausages each day, and there was a great choice to set us up for exploring in the wet and windy weather. Olivia also replied to our email very quickly and awarded our greener stay. We’re grateful for all of that, and for such a lovely place to stay during our trip. The hotel made a great base. We managed to visit Newcastle, Durham, York and Whitby, and our room was very clean, a great size and comfortable. The staff were lovely throughout. Bobbie checked us in before 3pm because she recognized our club membership status, then greeted us at breakfast and was a pleasure to talk to. Michael, the gentleman with glasses, kindly lent us an umbrella for the very wet and windy trip. I understand there are two Michaels. We also chatted with Millie, I think, sorry if that’s wrong. She was super friendly, complimented my dress, had great taste in music and made us feel very welcome. On our last day the manager, in a red dress, offered to lend us a hoover so I could vacuum pack my clothes. I’m sorry I didn’t catch her name. I believe the supervisor who came up was called Olgha, and she helped me with the vacuum clothes pack. Thank you both!

It’s a useful spot for the Life Science Centre and Discovery Museum, with friendly, helpful staff and clean rooms that have what we need for a short stay. We’ve stayed several times. The main station is about a five minute walk away, and Grainger Market takes around 10-15 minutes on foot. There’s a multi-storey car park right beside the hotel. It usually has spaces on the upper levels even when busy, has a lift, and charges about the usual city centre rates. You can drop off or pick up luggage outside the hotel before or after parking. Breakfast wasn’t quite as good on our most recent stay, with no fresh fruit out, for example. They still only put out soya milk, not oat, so vegans or people who are lactose intolerant may find the choices a little limited. The coffee has never been great, so we usually get a takeaway one elsewhere afterward.

Nathan in the restaurant was a real credit to himself and the company. He was professional and courteous, and took the time to show genuine care and interest in my son, who has autism. That personal attention stood out and would make me return without hesitation. The bathroom was off-putting, with noticeable yellow staining on the skirting boards and floor. I’m not sure what caused it, but it wasn’t what I’d expect in a hotel bathroom. At check-in, the gentleman at the front desk wasn’t particularly welcoming. My son can be outgoing and likes talking to people, and I felt the response he got was a little abrupt. I would have liked a bit more warmth and understanding in that moment.

The room was spacious, comfortable and homely, and we didn’t pay much. Everyone we met was lovely, with impeccable customer service. The location is great too: three minutes on foot from the station, five from the arena, and roughly fifteen from the centre. We paid extra for a double room, but got two single beds on opposite sides of the room. It wasn’t a major issue, but it was annoying to pay the supplement and not receive what we booked.

Breakfast is included in the room price, which is a nice touch, and the rooms are small but comfortable and kept impeccably clean by the service team. The ensuite bathroom has a clever door that can close off the whole bathroom or just the loo, so one person can shower while someone else uses the toilet privately. The location is excellent, just a few minutes’ walk from Newcastle Central Station and within easy walking distance of central Newcastle’s attractions. Staff were friendly and helpful at check-in. I’d definitely stay again when I’m in the area.
