The rooms were clean, had big windows and got lots of sunlight, and it was good for the price. My only small complaints were a few shaving hairs left on the sink and the air conditioning being really loud at times. The location is incredibly central.

The queen bed was clean and comfortable, so the stay itself was comfortable, but the room smelled as if someone had smoked in it before. The room was small and basic, and for the price I thought the hotel was too basic. We went during a busy time, Durham Lumiere, and I used points to book, but I still thought the one-night rates were too high. A kettle with instant coffee and tea is usually provided. The key cards felt flimsy, and on the last day I couldn't get into the room, so I had to return to reception to sort out access while I was in a rush. Prices need to be more reasonable.

The front desk team made the best impression. The ladies who helped with my small late-checkout questions were friendly and efficient, and handled everything superbly. This was my first stay with this Marriott Bonvoy brand, and I'd come back, though I have one small gripe. Breakfast didn't have a huge selection, but for a budget place it didn't feel skimpy. It was served in a spacious restaurant, which added to the experience. My Sleeper Queen bed was very comfortable and the wall-mounted TV was a good size. The bathroom and shower area, though, were tiny, with barely room to swing a kitten, let alone a cat. I could hear that my room backed onto the nearby railway, but it didn't disturb my sleep. At £57 for the night, it seemed good value. The hotel is less than a five-minute walk from Newcastle Central station, making it a handy base for exploring the city centre on foot.

The room was spotless, modern and comfortable, with a layout that made it easy to relax after a long day. I appreciated the USB ports at both the desk and bedside, plus the large bedside lamp and focused desk lamp for working or reading. Staff kept everything clean and fresh, check-in was quick, and they went out of their way to make sure I had what I needed. At the front desk, Julie and Patricia were especially polite and helpful. The location is excellent, close to the train station and right among Newcastle's pubs and nightlife, with the city easy to explore from there. Friday night around the hotel was lively and full of atmosphere, while inside it still felt calm and peaceful, a great balance. From the moment I checked in, the staff made me feel genuinely welcome with warm, professional service. It was one of my best hotel stays in Newcastle.
