Grand Hotel Gosforth Park

The room service was quick, nicely presented, hot and fresh, and absolutely delicious. The staff were lovely, polite, professional, and seemed proud of the service. We stayed in a suite at The Grand Hotel Gosforth Park, Newcastle, and from arrival to departure, the whole stay felt relaxed and easy. The team made us feel welcome and looked after. The suite exceeded what we expected. It was spacious, spotless, and full of character, with elegant furniture, soft lighting, and a very comfortable bed. The lounge was a highlight, with a homely fireplace and luxurious sofas, a lovely place to unwind after a long day. I saw the current 7.5 rating on Booking.com, but after our stay, I think that's far too low. This felt like a 5-star experience, with a beautiful suite, great food, excellent service, and real hospitality. We'd definitely come back.

The food was fabulous, and the staff were so friendly and couldn't do enough for us. The gym had everything needed for a good workout, and the pool looked clean and lovely, with a few loungers beside it. The rooms do need updating, as other reviewers have said, but they were immaculately clean. We spent a couple of nights here and found it really good value.

The price for Christmas was lower than I'd expected, and I had a great break near our family. The cleaning staff were great, and the people welcoming us at check-in were friendly too. There were two nights of disturbed sleep. One night, music from a party in the function room went boom boom boom, though it wasn't New Year's Eve. On New Year's Eve, children were running and playing in the corridors. I also hadn't understood from the information that leisure facilities cost extra. I was willing to pay, but couldn't get through the door, which may have been locked, and no staff came to help from inside. 😢

I've been a member here with my parents since way back, when it was a Swallow hotel. The location is brilliant, and the staff are top-notch and go out of their way for you. The leisure club is what sets it apart from most local hotels, with a sauna, gym, pool, and steam room. The kids love it, and the trim trail around the grounds is a nice extra that most city-centre hotels could only dream of. And the price, come on, man. You can't beat the value. Anyone leaving less than five stars must be a professional complainer or just looking to have a whinge. Fact.
