The Green Man

The room was clean and comfortable, though fairly basic, and everyone we met was pleasant. We were surprised to find the pub shut for renovation, since nobody had told us. When we arrived, it wasn’t even clear that the B&B was open. We were in the area for a wedding and had hoped to get a restorative pub lunch there on Sunday, so it was a shame the pub was closed. They said room prices weren’t raised for the races taking place at the time. Still, given the refurbishment and reduced service, I felt a small discount or some consideration would have been appropriate.

We went to the Carpenters Arms for a drink. Despite how it looks, this place isn’t a pub or restaurant, just an unmanned B&B. Breakfast was called “continental” and laid out in what used to be a commercial kitchen. We ended up going to the nearest McDonalds.

The staff were attentive and friendly, and the food was good quality. It was a lovely first visit. I’ll be back to try the steak challenge :)

That lovely atmosphere and great service go with fantastic food. I won’t have steak anywhere else.
