Room 5, which I believe is the deluxe double, was spacious and full of character. Each room has its own rustic, modern style, and the furnishings and lighting were thoughtfully chosen. The bed was large and comfortable, the air conditioning worked, and the two complimentary bottles of water were a nice touch. I was at Charter House for work, arriving Sunday 12 October and leaving Tuesday 14 October, and was very impressed. Breakfast was included at The Wheatsheaf pub across the square. I had the Full English, cooked with care and with no soggy mushrooms. Compliments to the chef. We also ate at the Thai restaurant on Charter House’s ground floor, where the food and service were superb, a real highlight. A couple of things could’ve been better. At 6ft2 I had to duck to get under the shower head in Room 5, and the water was lukewarm the first morning and a little warmer the second, never quite reaching the right temperature. The smaller hotel was quiet, though being in the town centre meant some outside noise, none of which disturbed my stay. The location is excellent and the complimentary parking is a great bonus. I may come back over Christmas for a personal visit. Watch this space!

The parking was a big plus. It’s a short walk away, but easy to find with the clear map in the pictures. Breakfast is included and served just next door, which helps make the place very affordable and good value. Charter House is right in the city centre, so it was easy to get around on foot. The rooms were clean, stylish and modern, and I had a fantastic stay. I’d recommend it and would stay again.

The shower broke while I was using it and wouldn’t turn off. The window pane fell off and nearly cut my colleague’s hand, and the air conditioning was broken when we arrived. Absolutely atrocious and disgusting. I stayed based on the previous reviews. Avoid at all costs!

Breakfast had a wide choice of options and set us up for the day. Our room was spacious and modern, with complimentary toiletries, fluffy towels, and tea and coffee facilities. An amazing stay, a real hidden gem, with great value and a great location. I’d highly recommend it.

The room itself was beautiful, and it’s a great price in a good location. The family suite is spacious, with a huge bath and TV, lovely decor, a coffee machine with pods, and glass bottles of spring water. Morning staff were friendly. The beds squeaked a lot and weren’t very comfortable, so they could use replacing or better mattresses. Doors slammed at all hours and could do with soft closers. The location was noisy, with people and pesky seagulls at all hours. Monday night was quieter for people and doors, but I wouldn’t stay over a weekend again. There are lots of stairs to the family room and no lift, so I struggled with luggage. Parking also cost extra.
