Avoid this hotel if you have an assistance animal. The owners refused to let my assistance dog stay with me, saying that other guests had allergies. I was told that allergies aren’t a valid reason to refuse access under UK law, and that assistance dogs have the same right to access services as other people, with adjustments made where needed. Exceptions may apply in specific, tightly controlled settings, or for a taxi driver with a medical exemption certificate. The hotel said dogs weren’t allowed, even assistance dogs, and I believe that was unlawful disability discrimination. I booked through Agoda and asked them for a refund. They said they had contacted the hotel, which denied the incident had happened. I pointed out that I’d booked another room at a different hotel for the same night. I felt that the owners were acting as if the law didn’t apply to them, and that the hotel was lying to avoid a refund. Don’t waste your money here. Update: The hotel replied that I booked a room for myself only, didn’t have an assistance animal, and left without telling them, later saying I wouldn’t arrive because of unforeseen circumstances. They also said I had stayed and used the room and bathroom. My response: I booked a double room for one or two people, and my partner was with the assistance animal. I left within five minutes of the hotel refusing entry because of the discrimination. The hotel’s claim that I left without informing them and then said I wouldn’t arrive doesn’t make sense alongside its claim that I stayed and used the toilet. Are guests somehow both staying and not staying at once, until someone checks the room? I have the bill for a room at another hotel, and its cameras should show me arriving and leaving the next day. The refusal was because of “allergies,” which, as I understand the law, isn’t a valid reason.
