I only ordered my Sunday Roast takeaway about 15 minutes before I went to collect it today, 01/02/2026, and the service was unbelievable. The friendly staff are a credit to the place, and I’ll be going back. The meal was exceptional, especially the sirloin of beef, cooked to perfection. The fresh roasted vegetables were excellent too. Amazing value, and it was a pleasure to eat. Fantastic! 👍👍👍👍👍

At £98 for three people, including the 10% service charge, this Saturday lunch was disappointing, and I wouldn’t return. Service and food both fell short of what I expected for the price. It was busy, with what seemed to be only two serving staff, who looked overworked. We and the table beside us waited a long time for drinks, orders and food. The Sesame Crusted Salmon Fillet was good, and the chips looked fine. The desserts were fine too. The Lambs Liver & Bacon was very salty, though the liver and bacon themselves were fine, and the carrots were awful while the cabbage wasn’t nice. The Dover sole was OK, but the new potatoes all had black bits left on them.

The food was the highlight for me. Breakfast was lovely, with good quality ingredients and perfect scrambled eggs, though we waited over 30 minutes for it to arrive. The quality made up for the wait. At dinner, the duck leg cassoulet had crispy skin and moist meat, and the huge Sticky Toffee pudding hit the spot on a cold, wet autumn evening. Our room was a good size, clean, tidy and comfortable, though a little cool. They supplied an extra electric radiator, so that wasn’t a problem. It’s an old building, with slightly uneven floors. The rooms don’t have double glazing and can feel a bit moist. We were in room 4 and could hear people in the bar. A really nice little place, with a few quirks.

We had such a lovely Christmas lunch this afternoon. The staff kept everything well organised and didn’t make us feel rushed or stressed. The generous servings were cooked beautifully, and the food was so good. Congratulations to the chef for making it a special day, and thank you all.
