Novotel Nottingham Derby

The room and bed were comfortable, with good AC, and check-in was easy. It's close to the M1, but you can't hear the motorway. There was a mug with a brown mark on it, and I found the separate loo room a bit odd. I slept badly on the first night because the green fire evacuation light by the front door shone through the room and lit the whole place up. I get that it's a safety feature, but I wish I'd known so I could bring an eye mask. I eventually worked out my own solution and slept well the second night. When I mentioned it at reception, I was told nothing could be done. I suggested an eye mask myself; the receptionist said they'd check with housekeeping, but I had to ask whether I should come back to find out if one was available. The answer I got was about when the F&B manager would be in, as I also wanted to raise the food. For dinner I had the kids pizza and sticky toffee pudding. Some of the pizza seemed undercooked compared with the rest and was drenched in sauce. For a four-star hotel, I didn't think it was good value. I've had better food at many Wetherspoons for the same price. Breakfast on the first morning was poor, especially the scrambled eggs. They were tasteless, had no salt, and were dry but wet underneath. When I told the F&B manager, she said they weren't made fresh and came already scrambled. It put me off. She did explain I could request items, since there's no breakfast menu and they don't put out every special to reduce food waste. There's room to improve, especially with following up on complaints.
