The hotel is nicely decorated, the breakfast was good, and the evening meal was good too, though my coq au vin could have had more punch. The bacon was fantastic, the poached eggs very well done, and I’d give breakfast 4.5 out of 5. A choice of Cumberland or spicier sausage would have made it a 5, and I’d add pepper to the mushrooms, though that’s just my taste. The place could be very good once the issues below are sorted, but I wouldn’t return. There wasn’t much storage in the room, just hanging space and one shelf. A trunk was there, but it held an extra duvet and pillows. The tap was so powerful that even a slight adjustment sent water over the toilet, door and tiles. The solution was a notice asking guests to open it carefully, which still didn’t guarantee the water wouldn’t spray everywhere. The doors slammed very loudly, louder than in other hotels I’ve stayed in, and that didn’t make for a relaxing atmosphere. We were beside the staff room on the second floor, whose door slammed whenever it was used, shaking the wall our bed backed onto, with staff then rushing up and down the stairs. During breakfast, someone was being interviewed by the manager at a restaurant table behind us. That wasn’t what I wanted to hear on a relaxing break, and probably wasn’t ideal for the job seeker either. When it snowed, the car park wasn’t gritted or cleared for a day, leaving patches of sheet ice. I fell on my back while cleaning the car, though luckily my padded winter jacket helped. The managers also used restaurant tables to work from instead of a registration or booking area.

We had a fantastic lunch in the conservatory, which was a lovely place to eat. The service was top notch, the beer was delicious, and there was a great selection. I couldn’t fault it.

Really good service and a fantastic place. It took a bit of time for the pie to come out, though I suppose it always does. We’ll definitely be back.

Friendly staff and puddings to die for. It’s a great little spot for something a step up from average pub food, and dogs are allowed in certain areas.

The breakfast took a little while, but it was worth waiting for. Mill Street Pub and Kitchen deserves credit for its generous breakfast hours, from 7.30 to 11. Some B&Bs stop at 9.30, and I honestly feel those places are thinking about themselves rather than their guests. The food was excellent, and the place was very clean and nicely decorated. Staff were helpful. The room could have done with a wardrobe or somewhere to hang clothes.
