Clive and Karin were lovely and easy to chat with, and their ideas for the area included places not usually mentioned on tourist sites, like Pulpit Hill. The location makes it a short walk to Oban’s shops and restaurants, and about 15 minutes on foot to the ferry. Our room, number 5, had a great water view, plenty of space for our things, and a nice sitting area. The bed was very comfortable too. Breakfast was fantastic.

We loved starting the day with a delicious breakfast and homemade shortbread cookies. Clive and Karin were attentive and had lots of suggestions for places to see and things to experience. Hawthorne Bank Guest House was a charming, warm place to recharge at the end of our Scotland stay, well placed for walking into town. Set high enough up to look over the harbor, it had a stunning view.

Breakfast was fabulous, and the property was spotless and beautifully appointed. Clive was a first-class host, very accommodating. The Guest House is well placed for a short walk into town, and having parking is a real bonus. I’ll recommend it and would return without hesitation when I’m in the area.

We ended up at Hawthornbank after our Rabbies tour to Skye brought us there as a stopgap hotel, when we were unexpectedly stuck in Ft William. I was delighted with it. Our attic room was lovely and comfortable. I’d worried about the stairs because my 83-year-old mother was with us, but we were both happy with the experience. When we left for the next leg, the host sent us off with muffins, juice, and sandwiches. Such a wonderful place to stay on the way to the Isle of Skye. I strongly recommend giving it a try.

The hosts paid attention to details and dietary needs, and breakfast was very good. The room had an amazing view, though its bathroom was quite small. It’s not far from town, but getting back involves a bit of a walk uphill. Still, an enjoyable stay.
