Clough Manor

The staff were friendly and helpful throughout, especially Katie at the front desk, who went above and beyond to sort out our food needs. It was our first visit, and we were impressed from the welcome onwards. The hotel was clean and nicely decorated, and our modern, well-presented room had a very comfortable king-size bed. My wife and I would stay again and recommend it to others. Thank you.

The rest of the place was really nice, with comfy beds, which makes the way this was handled such a shame. We booked a room with breakfast for Boxing Day. It was confirmed when we phoned and again at check-in, when we were told breakfast ran until 9:30 because of the festive period. We arrived at 9, but the chef had left. The receptionist was very rude, acting as if we'd caused a problem, then eventually agreed to refund the breakfast cost. At checkout she changed her story and said breakfast wasn't included, despite the confirmations and our rate being 30 more than another guest with us. When I asked her to check with the person from the previous day, she said they'd call us after looking into it. They never did. I wish I hadn't paid in advance. Our friends in Denshaw were furious and said they'd spread the word. I'd advise paying after the stay. I don't mind an honest mistake, but being rude and refusing to investigate it felt like acting self-righteous while stealing.

Phill, Tony and the rest of the team at Clough Manor did a great job. Staff were friendly, greeted us personally and showed us around. I've attended twice for professional meetings and dinner, and the service was amazing both times. The food was gorgeous and clearly prepared by highly qualified chefs. I'm keen to stay over. The rooms were lovely and clean, and the bed was exceptionally comfortable. We stayed for 2 nights and would come again, as it was clean and good value. The bathroom was very dated, with an avocado suite and mahogany loo seat, and really needs updating. Staff were friendly and helpful, though the young woman behind the bar didn't know her drinks. She was still helpful. Breakfast was adequate, but a few things had been forgotten.
