I accidentally deleted my review while trying to update it, so here goes again. We slept really peacefully, and the rooms were clean and tidy, with huge beds and a nice, clean en suite shower room and toilet. The beer was good, and the food was hot, generous and very good quality. Room and food prices were reasonable too. There’s a large bar and plenty of tables in the spacious venue. The staff and landlord were extremely friendly and made us feel like part of the family. Parking for about six cars is right outside. There’s a great café 200 metres up the main road and a post office/general store 100 metres up the side street. It’s a 45-minute drive from the hills and lakes, and fairly close to the M6 and A66. We liked it so much we’ve booked another three-night break. Can’t wait.

After a long walk, we needed a proper meal late on Saturday, and the staff at The George made us feel welcome straight away. The food and service were excellent, just how a pub should be. We had a nice chat with the locals too. I’ll be recommending it to friends and family, and can’t wait to return.

We stayed for a week and were perfectly comfortable, though the room was fairly basic. It was en suite and excellent value. I think the rooms are better suited to a quick stop on the Coast to Coast walk than a full week, but it worked fine for us. The food was excellent, and the atmosphere warm and friendly. Coming back to the real fire after a day traipsing around the Lakes was great. The pub is conveniently near the M6, with absolutely no road noise, and about a 30-minute drive from the Lakes.

A lovely village pub with great rooms, food, drinks, hospitality and excellent staff. We can’t recommend it enough.

The beds were very comfortable, and otherwise we had a great stay. Wi-Fi was disappointing, though. It didn’t reach the rooms and was patchy in the bar, barely enough for me to get work done.
