Chevin Country Park Hotel & Spa

The location is great, and Matt and mckenze were two waiters who stood out. Everything else was rubbish. We’re leaving a day early after finding things dated, dirty and broken, from our cabin to the cracked toilet seats in the main building. If this is what you can see, it makes you wonder about what you can’t. The food was awful, tasted frozen or shop-bought rather than fresh, and was far too expensive. Cleanliness was shite too. The pool and spa booking we’d paid for was scheduled at breakfast time, so we paid an extra £30.00 for two of us to use them in the afternoon. The changing rooms were dirty and the pool area looked dated and miserable. What a rip off.

The location is lovely, and we enjoyed the spa. Our room was really nice too, once we’d asked to move from the cabin we were put in on arrival, even though we’d booked a room. That cabin was like somewhere I stayed with the scouts. Staff were lovely, but nobody seemed to know what they were doing, as if it was everyone’s first day. The bar and restaurant aren’t worth the cost, and the mixed grill I ordered was definitely overpriced. The place is rough around the edges and needs a proper clean and general maintenance. It was a birthday present, so I didn’t pay, but if I had, I would’ve left and gone elsewhere.

It’s our fifth stay, so they’re clearly doing some things right, though the place could use some investment, including the spa. The staff were friendly and polite, and Tracy and Sue at reception and Kelly and Mackensie in the dining room were especially welcoming. Our spacious room was lovely, but a bit cold at the end of January. They brought robes, slippers and an extra heater, which helped. Breakfast offered plenty of choice and was lovely. The yoghurt pots were yummy, and the cooked breakfast tasty, though the hash browns tasted as if they’d been cooked in old oil. We also enjoyed the bar snacks.

The only little letdown was that the jacuzzis could have been cleaner. Otherwise, we loved the spa session this afternoon. My massage with Sally was the highlight, one of the best I’ve had, and she was kind, professional and really skilled. The property is beautiful, surrounded by forest and nature, which made it even more relaxing. Everyone was welcoming and friendly. The restaurant lady was lovely, and the gentleman at spa reception kindly took photos for us.
