The Turf pub is right below, so I popped in for a vino and spent time exploring Oxford. The hotel itself was very clean, parking was great, and the staff were accommodating. Communication was good too, and I’d happily return. I stayed over the May bank holiday weekend, and this family-run 17th-century hotel turned out to be just what I needed. The reception staff were excellent and breakfast was great. Such an amazing find.

We were close to the pub, so it could get noisy. We were there during graduation/formal in late June, and there could be a party going on in the surrounding area. The room had a unique feel and lots of 17th century character. If you want everything modern, this probably isn’t the place for you. It’s a charming hotel with character, and the staff were friendly and helpful. I’ll be sure to stay here next time I come back to Oxford.

Having the pub right on the premises was handy when I needed supper and didn’t feel like going far. It’s fantastic: you can order online, the food arrives at the table within minutes, and the portion was huge. The hotel’s location was fine, close enough to where I needed to be, and the service was generally good. Most staff were friendly and helpful, though one person was a little unpleasant. My first room was tiny, noisy, and had no shower. It faced the walkway used by pub goers, and there was nowhere for my suitcase except right against the door, which was the room’s only exit. They agreed to move me the next day. The second room was a bit bigger, quieter, and had a shower, though it was up a steep flight of stairs.

The staff were really friendly and helpful, and the suite was spacious with lots of character. It was quaint, stayed cool in the summer heat, and right in the town centre. A lovely place for a weekend trip.

The few good things here don’t make up for the hassle, especially at a minimum of over 200£ a night. The location is as close as you can get to the centre of Oxford, the staff are very friendly, and the continental breakfast was good. The room, though, was clearly unmaintained. There were cracks in the wall, the bathroom mirror was askew and loose, the curtain was torn, and the bedside table knob fell off. In summer it was incredibly hot. The small window only opened halfway, so there wasn’t much fresh air, and the shower water just dripped. There were cobwebs on the staircase, which is more like a ladder despite being 17th century, and there was a dog in the kitchen. The famous Turf Tavern is right below the room window. If you stay in that room, you can hear all the guests’ conversations from noon until well past 11pm.
