The hotel keeps its original features and has plenty of character, in what I’d call Oxford’s cosmopolitan area. It sits on a busy high street with lots of pedestrians. The soft colour palette is lovely, and while some rooms are small, they’re cozy enough for a good night’s rest. There are nice outdoor seating areas and some rooms have back patios, plus there’s a pod at the back. A church next door chimes its bell every hour. The afternoon tea was tasty 😋. There’s a meeting room set up for boardroom-style conversations, seating about 16 people. They also have a bar area, a little reception lounge with a log fire, and a cute library with very comfortable seats and a small outdoor space for a quiet break. The staff are nice. The layout is a maze, with stairs dotted around and no lifts, though there are only two floors. It has a 3-4 star feel and costs a bit, but Oxford is expensive. I’d recommend it 🤗

We stayed for a weekend. The room was spotless and pleasant, and the service was polite, though awkward at times. They called us twice and said a parking space would be held for early arrivals, but it wasn’t. They also said twice our room would be prioritised for service before 3pm so we could check in early, but that didn’t happen either. We didn’t mind either thing, but why offer it so clearly if it wasn’t going to happen? Breakfast was adequate, but didn’t match the facilities. The choices were very simple, and what we tried lacked seasoning. For £20, the full English wasn’t comparable to similar places: it had a stamp-sized piece of black pudding and half a tomato, with a random handful of watercress. The buffet pastries and baked goods were limited and quite dry, and the muffins seemed at least a day or two past their best. We didn’t eat in the restaurant, but had hoped to get a drink at the bar in the evening. The whole open area smelled strongly of food, especially fish dishes, so we decided against it. That was a shame, since the setting is quite nice.

This lovely boutique hotel is in a quiet part of Oxford, close to the city centre and attractions. The original building dates from the 1600s, and its charm and character have been kept while it was updated thoughtfully and elegantly. Our room was small but beautifully decorated and furnished, with a tasteful, updated bathroom. They provided free Blenheim Palace drinking water in glass bottles and milk, along with a small fridge and tea and coffee. The bright library has comfy couches where you can meet up with travel companions, and a few hallways have small historical displays. There’s a pleasant patio restaurant and an indoor dining area, though we didn’t eat there. We got a reduced rate through an Expedia sale.

The staff were attentive throughout our stay, and the service was top notch from the moment we arrived. They helped with our bags, made check-in easy, and kindly showed us around. The restaurant was delicious, and they adjusted menu items for dietary needs without any fuss. Our room was updated, very clean and quiet, with a comfortable bed and a homey feel. It was VERY small, though, and we slept amazingly well. The location is fine if you want to be a little away from the bustle. If you don’t fancy walking to your destination right away, you might prefer somewhere closer to the city centre. I enjoyed the stay, but the room size and distance would take half a star off an otherwise flawless experience.

We first came here for afternoon tea four years ago for our 40th wedding anniversary. It was so delicious that we promised ourselves we’d stay at the Hotel one day, and that day finally came. Everything was beyond amazing, from the staff and room to The Grill. The receptionists greeted us warmly and were very polite. The room was outstanding and the food sublime. We’re going back next year for our 45th wedding anniversary.
