The London Inn

The pub was a bit noisy, though that wasn’t their fault, and we did have a bit of a hangover headache. The Sunday lunch took a while to arrive, but it was really good once it did. We had plenty of meat and ordered all the extras: Yorkshire pudding, cauliflower cheese, pigs in blankets and stuffing. There were only two potatoes, but the meal and portions were lovely.

The bartender was an absolute angel, but I thought the food was poor and far too expensive. We’d hoped for a local place and came away feeling ripped off. We ordered three starters, all frozen. The squid was maybe seven tiny battered balls, about a gram each, with bottled sweet chili. The “mushroom and blue cheese fondue” was really toast with five mushrooms, a hint of cheese, a whole bag of rocket and, of course, chips. Chips came with everything. My “spicy cheese toastie” was on slabs of bread too, though the flavour was adequate. Our party also had a chowder, which I was told was “fine”, and a 6oz beef burger that looked like a Rustlers. I wouldn’t have served this as a chef. We spent nearly a hundred pounds, and now we’re limping and won’t be sitting down for a few hours. Frankly, steer clear. We put trust in you, Bought fondue, But what arrived was doo-doo.

A little classic British pub, set slightly back from the seafront. It’s usually quiet enough to find space and a seat.

A friendly welcome, a great range of beers, and a lovely warm fire on a winter’s day. The chowder was really good too.
