Garfield Lodge

The owners were lovely and friendly, and breakfast was both delicious and generous. We had a very pleasant stay. One thing to know is that the top floor rooms have steeply sloping ceilings. My wife is short, but still banged her head on the ceiling in the loft room.

This is a great little B&B, our favourite in Paignton so far. The owner was lovely and helpful, the service was always spot on, and breakfast was lovely. It’s only a minute’s walk from the location. The beds were very low, and there was no wifi as advertised, but the owner was new and changing the broadband over.

The breakfast was varied and well cooked, and the good seaside location and £65 nightly price are what brought my rating up from two stars to three. The host was friendly, though their English was very limited and the spelling was poor. They got my name wrong. The room was spacious, with an ensuite, but the decor felt childish. The shower was appalling and had black mold because the isolator wasn’t working properly. The beds were comfortable, but the linen had some suspicious stains. The floor was horribly dirty, and I had to wipe my feet before getting into bed. If cleanliness matters to you, don’t consider staying here. All the rooms are upstairs, so it’s not suitable for wheelchair users. I wouldn’t stay again.

Our second stay here, and both visits have been great. The rooms are immaculately clean, and Micheal and inga are lovely people who make you feel really comfortable. There’s a great choice at breakfast. I had the German breakfast all weekend and loved it. Can’t recommend this place enough.
