Mercure Paignton Hotel

We were booked at the Ibis next door at first, then got upgraded to the Mercure. It was just one night, but we loved it. The seafront location was great, and the private car park cost £15, which seemed reasonable. Our room was spotless, the beds were so comfortable, and the friendly staff made us feel secure. We'd stay again.

We used to be so happy staying at the Mercure and came back several times a year, but this latest visit was disappointing. The hotel was fully booked, so we had a smaller, more basic room than we'd usually choose. At about £130pn for a small double, it didn't meet my expectations. The room was too hot however low we set the AC. It hadn't been properly cleaned on arrival, with food wrappers from the previous guest under the desk and by the window. There was a broken light that just needed screwing back in, and the armchair had some questionable stains. Housekeeping during the stay was only adequate, unlike our previous visits. The used glasses weren't replaced, the bed wasn't made as it had been before, and the bedside tables and desk weren't wiped. We had just two towels for four guests. I asked housekeeping, who were cleaning the next room, for more, but they weren't brought. Breakfast was also poorly handled. We came down a little later than usual with our new baby, but nobody was there to greet guests or check us in, and a queue formed. People ended up sitting down anyway. There were no clean plates, despite several guests asking staff for them, and most hot food containers were empty.

Our room was warm and roomy, and I especially loved looking out over the beach. The food was incredible, even with the hotel so full. The place itself was modern and very clean, and the staff worked hard and were excellent at making guests feel looked after. We had a really enjoyable stay and would happily return. Keep up the good work!

A huge thank you to everyone at Mercure Paignton. The staff were so welcoming and did everything they could to make our stay lovely. At breakfast, the team greeted everyone with smiles and checked that people were happy. Even my dog, who can be vocal, got a lovely welcome and lots of attention. I'd highly recommend this hotel and will definitely return.
