The Old Shop

We spent a lot of time around the huge dining table just chatting, and the games room was a nice extra. We didn’t get around to using it because the weather was good for exploring. There are plenty of footpaths nearby, though be ready for the climbs back up. The owners communicated really well, and the welcome pack was useful. The whole place was clean and in good shape. The kitchen has plenty of equipment, but just salt and pepper for condiments, so bring oil, sauces and anything else you’ll want for cooking. Washing-up liquid, dishwasher tablets and cloths were there. The bedrooms were all good, with both double and twin options. My one gripe was that the family bathroom had no shower over the bath. There are other showers, including a walk-in room with an adapted toilet for people with mobility needs. The owners have clearly made an effort to cater for disabilities, though all the steps mean it isn’t really wheelchair-friendly. We mostly used the downstairs living space, which has effective underfloor heating and is closer to the second fridge where we kept beer and wine. The upstairs main lounge has lots of seating and a huge TV. Parking is limited, as you’d expect in a village, but the owners explained the options well. Three cars worked fine for us; with more, someone would need to park a bit farther away. We all had a really enjoyable stay and would happily return.

The host was very accommodating when we had questions. It’s a stunning place that works for all kinds of stays, with a fully equipped kitchen whether you’re there briefly or booking for a big family. I’d recommend the venue without hesitation.

Our group of 9 had plenty of room in this lovely holiday home, and having two sitting areas was a real plus. It’s in a beautiful village.
