We had a lovely stay. The place was spotless and tidy, the setting was beautiful, and the hosts were great.

The barn had all the facilities we needed, including a really nice lot burner and a Jacuzzi bath. The owners gave us a warm, helpful welcome, and we felt sure they’d help with anything that came up. It’s a wonderful cottage in a quiet country village, with fields all around. If you want a peaceful retreat, these barns are hard to beat.

The iPad was a nice extra, and the cottage has everything you’d expect and more. It’s peaceful, in a lovely part of Derbyshire, and yes, I’d go back. The bathroom is the reason for the four stars: the whirlpool bath was awkward to get in and out of, and the hot water ran out quite quickly. The beams also made finding my way to and from the right side of the bed in the dark a bit of a memory test, with careful ducking needed. If you have mobility problems, this probably isn’t the place for you.

Parwich is a delight, a classic Derbyshire village. Douglas barn is somewhere I’d choose as a second home, honestly, 9/10. It’s also a great base for the walking and cycling trails, with Bakewell, Buxton and Asbourne all within easy reach.
