Fairshiels B&B

The first night went well. The rooms were clean, and the landlady seemed friendly; we had some nice small talk. But the next evening, my show at the Edinburgh fringe ran a little late, so I was going to arrive 15 minutes after the time she said she locked the front doors. I didn't want to wake her and thought my nephew, who was waiting in the room, could let me in. Instead, the landlady was awake and waiting. She angrily stopped my nephew and said she wouldn't let me in, then shouted at me like I was a naughty child, even though I'm a thirty year old man. I apologized, but nothing seemed to placate her. I was shocked and mortified, and thought about leaving to sleep in the car. We stayed the night, though, and left before breakfast the next day. If you think that kind of treatment is normal, by all means stay here. I certainly won't.

The breakfasts were excellent. The rooms were clean and the beds comfortable.

The owners were so friendly at this lovely, top-notch B&B.

Such a lovely host, and the facilities are lovely too.
