Breakfast is a must, and I highly recommend staying here. We spent four nights in room 8, which was immaculate and well presented, with great lighting and a view across to the wooded area opposite. The food was nicely presented, with some local delicacies and amazing steak, and there was an easy selection of drinks.

The staff were attentive and polite right through to our departure, and nothing was too much trouble. I have mobility issues, and when I asked for help carrying my luggage to our room, it was no problem. Check-in was very easy, and reception was helpful. We arrived Thursday 06/11/25 for a wedding on 07/11/25 and left Saturday 08/11/25. We got there around 2.30pm and had a late brunch. The turnip soup and Brie cheese were excellent. My granddaughter joined us for dinner at 7pm, and all the meals were excellent and served piping hot. I can highly recommend the Thai vegetable curry. We stayed in room 7, a large room with a king size bed and modern bathroom. I'd highly recommend a stay at The Stair Arms hotel. Thanks to everyone.

I've been to quite a few weddings at The Stair Arms as both a guest and content creator, and it's a fab place to get married. The ceremony and reception room is warm and flexible for decorating, and the doors open onto the garden, giving guests an indoor and outdoor feel in summer. There's plenty of space to get ready in the morning, as well as room for the ceremony and reception. Seating is plentiful for both day and evening guests. The staff are always friendly, prices are great, and there are lots of local taxi companies plus rooms on site for guests. A fab venue outside Edinburgh city!

The staff were lovely and welcoming, and the food was great, but room 1 definitely hadn't been cleaned properly. I've worked in hotels for many years, so I know what I'm looking at. It was absolutely freezing because the radiator wasn't working. The plug-in radiator they gave us was very dirty and didn't even heat the room. There were cobwebs and dust behind the TV, dirt all over the walls, dirty skirting boards, rubbish next to the bed, and mismatched plastic coat hangers in the wardrobe. In the bathroom, the chrome on the taps, radiator and shower door wasn't polished, there was mold under the shower and on the shower door, and the bath seal needs fixing all the way around. The floor was dirty, especially behind the sink and pipes; the shower door was covered in water marks, and there were cobwebs at the window. The loo brush was very dirty, with poo on it, and there was a poo mark on the loo and wall. I have photos, but I'm not sure how to add them to my review. We didn't just leave and go home because we hadn't looked over the room before going to dinner, and it was our first night away as a couple. We had booked room number 1 for my birthday.

I came for my birthday lunch on a Saturday because the place was dog friendly, though I wasn't expecting much. I was very wrong. The staff were friendly and efficient, and the food was excellent and reasonably priced. When they said we'd be seated upstairs because of the dog, I pictured a separate room. It turned out to be a very nice little open area just a few steps above the main space. I'll definitely come back and would recommend it to anyone thinking of visiting.
