The White Lion

Vicky made us feel welcome straight away, and we had a wonderful lunch at The White Lion. There were three of us, all having the two-course meal. The scallops in garlic butter were delicious, as was the mushroom soup Fin prepared. For mains, two steaks were cooked rare as requested, and the haddock was superb too. Harry cooked everything beautifully. We’ll be back!

The roast beef was one of the tastiest dinners we’ve had, and everything came out hot and cooked just right. We had Mother’s Day lunch at The White Lion and the whole visit felt cosy and welcoming. The manager was attentive, friendly, and helpful from the start, and all the serving staff were lovely and polite. The chef even stopped by to check on the food and had a nice chat with our son. There’s a lovely drinks selection too. Thanks for a great meal, we can’t wait to return. 🩷

The front of house handled the dessert issue really well. My wife’s crumble was a letdown, with a topping that tasted like a stale flapjack, so they promptly replaced it with a home brownie that was incredible. They mentioned it was the second complaint about the crumble and that it had been made again. I appreciated how understanding they were about the feedback. We went for Sunday lunch and got a lovely welcome. We both chose the three-course menu: the scallop starter was very good, and my wife’s beetroot pie and my lamb came in generous portions with great sides. The potatoes weren’t crispy, though that may come down to preference. We’ll definitely return.

The serving girls were delightful, and the place is beautifully done. On our first visit to the White lion, we had a delicious Sunday lunch, cooked beautifully and served with plenty of seasonal vegetables. The extra gravy was a yummy bonus. We were too full for pudding this time, but we’ll try it on our next visit. Top marks, we’ll be back.
