We've been coming back for three years because it's such a fantastic place to relax. There's a nature reserve across the road, three supermarkets within a couple of miles, and you can walk along the coast into Penzance. Nearby, the restaurant 50 yards away has a great range of food, though it's a bit expensive. There's also a cafe another 100 yards on and a coffee bar on the other side. The only downside is that I don't live here permanently.
This was our third stay over the past 12 years. The location is great for walking to Marazion and the Mount, and the outside and garden are very well maintained. Inside, though, the properties could do with updating. The patio door was extremely hard to open and close, and the toilet seat was very loose. Both problems had been mentioned in earlier reviews too. The freezer couldn't be used because it hadn't been defrosted, and there's no WiFi. The beds may feel too small if you're used to a King or Queen. The accommodation was clean and nice, but given what we paid for a week's stay, we'll look elsewhere on future trips to Cornwall.
Everything was very good apart from a few small issues. The owner fixed the main door lock, which wouldn't open, while we were there. The bathroom shaver light and cooker hood weren't working either. I mentioned them to the owner, who said he would have an electrician come in over the following weeks. The patio door lock was
The view of StMichaels Mount was great, and we enjoyed evening walks along the beach. The place was clean and tidy when we picked up the keys, with plenty of parking, some useful cleaning bits and a lovely little gift bag. The rooms were compact but still roomy enough for the two of us. The beds were the worst part. I've never slept on beds so uncomfortable, and I had backache within minutes. We tried different beds and doubled up mattresses and quilts, but for the last two nights we both slept on the sofas, which weren't much better. We were tired all day, and it nearly spoiled the holiday. For what we paid for a week, there should be decent beds. We'd only return if we knew the beds were a decent size and quality. With good beds, this would be a five-star place. There were a few other things that wouldn't take much to fix, including a freezer full of ice and a patio door that's very difficult to open and close. The coast path is only a few metres away and gets quite busy, so people looking in can intrude on your privacy. There was also an excessively loud beach party next to the cottages, though it stopped at exactly 9.00pm. The nearby train starts running quite early, but as we weren't sleeping well anyway, it didn't bother us.
The location is lovely, but a few things need attention. The sliding door and toilet seat both need fixing, and the shower sprays so forcefully that water goes straight onto the floor past you. The pillows felt like folded-up bedding stuffed into cases. The local pub could be a great spot, but it might as well have been closed during our stay, and you still have to pay to park.
