We spent two nights at The Estoril while stopping in Penzance. The location is pretty good, but room 6 was very small, and its bed was basically a thick foam mattress that felt much too soft. I'd avoid that room if possible. Also, despite what some adverts suggest, there really isn't breakfast available.

The location is decent, about 15m from the train station, but that doesn't make up for the rest in my opinion, especially if you're carrying luggage. I left partway through my trip because the room was in such poor condition. Mine was an attic room with a musty smell and poor ventilation, with dust and cobwebs across the ceiling. The linen looked clean, but there was a sticky substance on the bedside table. The shower and bathroom were grim, with dirt built up where it seemed no one had cleaned properly. The whole place needs renovating. There were no staff on site when I arrived because check-in was automated, which gave the place a strange feel. The cleanliness was off-putting enough that I couldn't rate the breakfast. I don't think it's worth the risk even as a budget stay: the owners denied that there were cleanliness problems and haven't engaged with me about them. Update 24/11/25: Estoril hotel, please check your email address or give me an alternative to the one on your website. I contacted you today about the steps I intend to take to seek a refund. Kind regards.

The B&B looks lovely, but it needs a major update. From the start, the corridors smelled overwhelmingly of fish, and unfortunately our room did too. It was dusty and dated, the bedside tables were sticky and the bedding seemed a little old. The bathroom was tiny, with the toilet almost touching the wall and bath on either side. There was mould and orange staining in the bath, so we didn't feel comfortable using it. Don't expect a cooked breakfast in a dining room. That isn't offered. You can choose a small baguette from a menu, but it wasn't breakfast food. We only saw our host briefly when she brought it to us. Sadly, it wasn't worth the price.

The bed was hard and sagged in the middle, and our small room and bathroom both need modernising. The shower was tiny, and old windows let in early noise from the corridors and outside. The place had a quirky feel, but I've stayed somewhere much better for the same price. The central Penzance location was really good, though parking was limited, with some on-street spaces. Breakfast was a cute fresh sandwich, pastry, cereal and fruit selection, but choices were limited and it came to the door at 8am, so there were no lie-ins. Room service was very thorough, but we had to be out by 11am, which also ruled out lazy mornings. Overall, a satisfactory stay.

We were on the top floor, in room 10, so getting there meant climbing lots of steep stairs. The place is interesting, but there were enough little things that I'm not sure I'd stay again, though other guests may feel differently. At first I thought breakfast being delivered to the room at 8am was odd. After a couple of days of full English breakfasts, though, it was a welcome change. The location is just outside Penzance's main bustle. There are three parking spaces, fine for a small car. We couldn't find free street parking, but there's a small car park for £2.50 for 24 hours. You can park on the street after 5pm too, as long as you move by 9am the next day.
