Newark Hotel

The shared kitchen was a real plus, with all the appliances you could need, and I had a great time here. The rooms were warm and exceptionally clean. Everyone was lovely: Patrick greeted me when I arrived, then Sukh the owner made me feel welcome too. Trudy was busy, but still found a few minutes for a chat. Patrick also kept me company at the bar one evening, and we had a good laugh. I'd absolutely recommend the hotel and will be back!

I stayed several nights for work and wouldn't return. The place felt dirty and seedy, with a stale food smell and old, grimy fixtures, furnishings, wallpaper, and facilities. My room's wallpaper was yellow and torn, and the thin walls let me hear the person next door snoring and watching TV loudly. No one was at reception when I arrived, and the car park was shut. I called and got the entry number so I could park. During my stay, housekeeping only remade the bed and gave my cutlery a haphazard wipe. There were kick marks on the bathroom door, as if someone had tried to break into the en suite before, and I found spiders and insects in the room. At least the room was warm, the bathroom was clean enough, and the water pressure and temperature were decent. The surrounding area felt dodgy too. I wasn't comfortable walking around in broad daylight, let alone after dark. I don't think of myself as a snob, but the reviews below don't seem to show the hotel's true colours.

I used this as a stopover for another doctor's appointment on Harley Street. I didn't think I'd sleep well at a budget hotel near Victoria, so I came here instead. It was certainly an unusual, memorable stay, the sort of place that might have turned up in one of Ben from Bald and Bankrupt's travel documentaries if he'd switched from his former Soviet Union trips to Britain after being banned in Russia. It's budget-friendly and within a reasonable walk of town, at least in August. There wasn't any noisy drunken nightlife nearby. Worth considering if you want somewhere a little out of the ordinary.

I've stayed here a couple of times now, and it hasn't let me down.
