It was lovely to return to High Farm in Cropton after 24 years. Stable Cottage had only just been finished the last time we were there, and this time we found it pleasant and cosy, with all the facilities we could need for a week away. Ruth & Stephen gave us a five-star welcome, with tea and goodies waiting on a tray. The New Inn is only a ten-minute walk away and a big attraction if you like beer. I’ve reviewed that excellent pub separately. High Farm is also a short drive from Pickering, with loads to see nearby. We both had an excellent break, and I’d recommend the cottage to anyone. We stayed in Hobbits Hideaway when our children were small, and that worked very well for us too.

Spotless everywhere, with cleaning products provided. The owners welcomed us with homemade cakes, tea and coffee, plus fruit and a bottle of bucks fizz. The cottage was perfect, with loads of room and a fully equipped kitchen, including a dishwasher and washer/dryer. We’d definitely return.

A play area for the children, and the owner is friendly, helpful and can offer advice if you’re unsure where to visit or get a meal. The accommodation is cleaned between guests. A long weekend may be possible even though it’s usually Monday to Friday. Call and discuss what you need. It’s a great, quiet place to stay.

Fantastic holiday accommodation in a lovely village, with huge gardens. It’s still as good as when we first visited 30 years ago. Highly recommended.

Ruth worked tirelessly to make our stay at Stable Cottage feel like home from the moment we arrived. There was a tray of goodies, a bottle of fizz, and a bowl of fruit and chocolates. That old-school hospitality made us feel truly welcome. It was a pleasure meeting Ruth and Stephen, such a lovely couple who made the stay delightful. The cottage feels like staying at your grandmother’s, clean, tidy and stocked with all the modern conveniences. It’s a great base for a relaxing break or a fun, busy holiday. CROPTON is well placed for trips up the coast, Pickering and the North Yorkshire Railway. Pickering traffic can get REALLY busy at peak times, though, and that can make the seaside drive annoyingly longer, so leave early. Book a short stay in the lovely B&B or consider a cottage, then go explore "God's own county".
