The food was a real highlight. We had two breakfasts and two evening meals, all tasty and generously portioned, with lovely ingredients from local suppliers. The breakfast bacon and sausages were beautiful. I had chilli prawns and fish and chips, both perfectly cooked, then sticky toffee pudding, which was delicious. The pub itself is a gorgeous old building with lovely period features. The Snug is a particularly pretty dining area, and the restaurant and bar feel warm and welcoming. December weather was pretty rubbish, but coming back to a cosy, friendly pub after a long walk felt like a hug. The only complaint is that my husband says he’s leaving me to marry whoever cooked his sirloin steak. He also loved the Blacksmith burger and the mac and cheese. We booked a couple of nights while looking around the area for a possible move, and we’re looking forward to visiting again if we relocate. Thanks to the whole team, your hard work shows.

The Anvil pub in Pimperne was warm and cosy inside, and the food was a 10/10. I had chilli prawns, then fish and chips, one of the tastiest, perfectly cooked meals I’ve had in ages, followed by sticky toffee pudding. We went for lunch and chose the two courses for £20. Carla was lovely when I ordered a drink at the bar, and Carl brought our food over, a very pleasant man. Thanks to chefs Ollie and Shaun. We’ll definitely be back.

The service was slow and disappointing. The young flaxen man who served us seemed inattentive and as if he’d rather be somewhere else. A shame, because the pub is warm, cosy and traditional, and the food was brilliant. I had delicious chicken, so it was otherwise a lovely meal in a delightful place.

This was our second stop here, the last time being in August, while we waited for the car to charge. The staff were very friendly and it’s a lovely place. We’ve only had tea and cake on both visits, but the dishes going out to other tables looked very nice.

We only stopped for a quick drink on the drive from Dorset home to Wiltshire. There’s a lovely outdoor seating area, much of it covered, and the inside is beautiful, with a separate dining area. The daytime staff were friendly. I noticed Sunday roast is served from 12 till 8, which is great. I’d be happy to come back and try more. It’s 50 minutes from home.
