Reception was smooth and the staff were friendly, but I left disappointed after a birthday stay with my partner. We paid £154 for the night, and the underground parking cost another £15 per stay, which felt excessive. If you've got a large modern vehicle, those SUV-sized ones, consider parking elsewhere or check your insurance excess. The pillars, posts and ceilings have paint marks from previous scrapes. The room was cold at first, though we got the heater going soon. We booked a King premium room but got two smaller beds pushed together, with different thicknesses, so I spent the night trying to avoid the gap and barely slept. A King bed should mean a king bed. The room also needed some care: the door stop was broken and the carpet stained in places. The included club lounge wasn't worth visiting. It felt soulless, was brighter than a Solar Nebula and completely unstaffed, so we sat thirsty while waiting for our restaurant table. Still, I enjoyed the evening with my partner.

The room was spacious and clean, had everything we needed, and the bed was really comfortable. The pool was big enough to swim in even when busy, and there's a sauna, steam room and gym too. These facilities are open to the public, not just hotel guests. We didn't eat at the Marco Pierre White restaurant on the top floor, though the menu looked good. Breakfast there comes with views of the sea and park. The hotel looks unremarkable from outside, but inside is the opposite. It's right on the front with great views and a lovely park to explore, about a 15-minute walk from the station. My only criticism is the very tight underground car park, made harder when people don't park properly. There are spaces for larger vehicles that may struggle with the low ceiling in the smaller bays, but some small cars take those spots selfishly. I couldn't fault the hotel otherwise.

We loved our three-night stay with our two young children. The concierge was genuinely polite and considerate, not just putting on an act. The main areas felt cosy, modern and pleasant, and our room was spacious, very clean and up to date. The only real drawback was the lack of a heated towel rail in the bathroom, which made dealing with wet towels a bit difficult. The pool was warm, the steam room nice and hot, and the gym was okay for a hotel. Parking was included, with spaces available, though getting in and out of the underground car park was a little tight.

Great location, lovely views and good facilities. Mike, who looked after the lounge, was friendly, fun and really knowledgeable, just the kind of host you want when relaxing. Daniel at the penthouse restaurant was amazing too. The rooms could do with a bit more refurbishment, but we had a very good stay and I'd definitely recommend the place and the guys.

The location was a real plus, with the Hoe right nearby, the Barbican about five minutes away and the city centre easy to reach on foot. Breakfast was outstanding, one of the best hotel breakfasts I’ve had, with lots of good hot and cold options and friendly service. The shower was disappointing, with very weak pressure, and there was no shower gel in the dispenser. Parking costs £15, which felt expensive for a hotel guest. We paid around £90 in low season and enjoyed our stay at that price. Having seen prices online at about twice as much, I’m not sure I’d choose it then.
