Station House Plymouth

Our top-floor triple room was clean and tidy, and had a kitchen with utensils and a toilet with shower. There were three of us staying on a Saturday night in Plymouth. It’s a short walk from the train station and bus stops, and the instructions, including the door codes and WiFi details, were very clear. I’d stay again.

The location is handy for local amenities, though the area felt a bit dodgy. For the price, it’s hard to beat, and I’d recommend it and try to book again next time we’re down. Self check-in was easy. The room was functional, and the bathroom was just the right size, with no trouble using the shower, which can be an issue for me. The decor wasn’t high standard, but it did the job. The bed headboard squeaked whenever one of us rolled over, though a cushion behind it fixed that. The flat surfaces on the bathroom cabinet, wardrobe and TV could use a dust.

This is my second stay here. The room was big, with everything we needed, but it wasn’t as clean this time as it had been on my first visit. There were cobwebs in the windows and stains on the sheets.

The room was lovely and the location was handy for tourist attractions, but I didn’t feel safe there with a child and a young woman in our group. On the second night, the street next to us was taped off and there were police everywhere. The first night, guests in the next room were shouting, and in the morning we found two men who’d slept on a sofa in the corridor outside our room. All the doors used access codes, which is fine, but it also seemed easy for anyone else to get in. There were no fire escape directions, so we’d have been stuck on the top floor if the alarm went off. There were no instructions for contacting anyone about a problem either, so we couldn’t report the men on the landing or ask for help.
