The Blueberry Hotel

The place has enough character in its decor to feel different from a multinational chain, which is a good thing these days. For Ponty, it feels like a step up. Friends brought me for lunch. The menu had a decent range and the food came quickly enough. We were first told there was no tartar sauce for the fish, but our waitress checked with someone, came back with some and apologised for the mistake. Good on her for following up instead of leaving it at that.

Room 1 had a double bed, a bathroom with a shower, toilet and basin, plus a chair, desk, bedside light, ironing board in the cupboard and hairdryer. There are steps as you enter the room. I booked an overnight stay for Monday and Tuesday in May 2026 through their website and paid on arrival. Breakfast was cooked to order, fresh and very generous, and served from 7am to 11am. The staff were pleasant when I arrived and at breakfast. The hotel is near Pontypridd town centre and railway station.

The toilets need attention. They weren't very clean and both taps were loose. I stopped by for a birthday breakfast and it was probably one of the nicest I've had in town for a while. Just over a tenner covered a large breakfast, tea and toast. The front-of-house lady was so cheerful and friendly.

I took a suite and my colleague had a double room. Barny was very helpful when we checked in, and Tiana handled the bar, waitressing and anything else that came up. We work away from home and usually stay at the TY Newport, travelling to site each day, but I spotted this place and suggested trying it. Glad we did: cracking rooms, good food and a lovely bar area.
