The Fairways Hotel

The hotel itself is closed right now, so I can’t comment on that, but the coffee and ice cream van outside is well worth stopping at if you’re walking along the seafront. There’s a big choice of cakes, coffees and ice cream, the milkshakes are amazing, and the prices are reasonable. The staff are lovely and helpful too. They take cash and card 😊.

We gave it another try because everyone deserves a second chance, but this visit was just as awful as the first. The setting is beautiful, but the service was shocking. Even though we arrived before other people, they were served ahead of us. We were asked if we wanted food before the kitchen closed, then nobody came back to take our order. The server’s attitude when we asked which beers were available didn’t help either. I know everyone is stretched during a pandemic, but this was extremely poor service. We spent our time and money at the Fairways, and it was a waste. We won’t go again.

The surf and turf was superb: a 10oz sirloin with lobster, alongside a duck starter. The steak was succulent and cooked perfectly. With the new chef and menu, the food was excellent, and the service was quick. Staff were friendly too. Highly recommend.

Even on a very busy Sunday, the team handled the carvery dinner well and worked together with good leadership. The carvery and starters were very good quality, the desserts were simple but adequate, and the bar prices were good. The conservatory is beautiful. I’d visit again.
