My husband surprised me with this beautiful place for Valentine’s Day. Mark greeted us as soon as we arrived and made us feel welcome straight away. Communication was excellent. Mark offered to arrange taxis into town and suggested places to eat, while he and Howard went to great lengths to make our room special. They’d checked with my husband about what they could do for Valentine’s Day, then arranged a lovely bunch of purple flowers from the local florist, chilled bottles of prosecco in the mini fridge and a chocolate rose with a poem. We were shown the pleasantly decorated breakfast room, the drawing room and then our room, 'Shelley's Theatre'. We were delighted with the room and its peaceful view from the front. The whole house is full of beautiful history, which you can appreciate in the decor. The house was spotless, the historic furniture was lovely, and the views were spectacular even on a very wet morning. Nothing was too much trouble, and breakfast was like a banquet. This was the best stay we’ve had anywhere. You really have to stay to appreciate the house. We look forward to coming back. Thank you, Mark and Howard.

Mark looked after us throughout our stay, and the information we received after booking was invaluable. Thank you, Howard. The Plas is a historic country house in a beautiful part of North Wales, set high enough to give stunning views across the estuary towards Porthmadog. Our immaculate room was well maintained, with period furniture and a very comfortable bed. The attention to detail in the shared areas is superb, and there’s a terrace and several places to sit and take in the view. It’s hard to imagine a better spot for a glass of wine. Breakfast was lovely and perfectly cooked. You book it the previous evening using a QR code or tablet, and our room had all the provisions we needed. We had a lovely long weekend thanks to Mark and Howard’s dedication, and look forward to coming back in the new year.

Mark and Howard are fabulous hosts who put a lot of effort into making the stay as good as possible. We felt well looked after, and breakfast was excellent. The house and location are beautiful, with stunning views. Our bedroom was quiet, warm, cosy and comfortable, proper luxury. We’d certainly stay here again.

Plas made our Silver Wedding anniversary and early birthday treat truly memorable. We’d only just left and were driving home when I felt compelled to write this, as the few days there exceeded our expectations by far. Howard and Mark welcomed us warmly, and the lovingly restored house felt like stepping back in time. Its history is everywhere, shared through thoughtfully arranged notes and little audio buttons around the property. We mistook them for housekeeping buzzers and took a full day to try one! Our Madocks Room was spacious and elegant, with breathtaking views from every window, a wonderfully comfortable four-poster bed and luxurious bedding. They’d thought of the details too, from water and hot drinks to lovely scented toiletries. Breakfasts in the beautiful breakfast room were delicious and set us up for the day. The scenery is spectacular, with mountains behind, the coast in view and countryside all around. Autumn added golden colours and crisp air. We used the Ffestiniog Railway discount, went on a gorgeous woodland walk in full autumn colour, then spent a lovely afternoon in Abersoch with a beach walk and a spooky cocktail. On our final evening we took drinks into the garden overlooking the valley at dusk. It was idyllic. No ghostly encounters, sadly, though we’re fairly sure we saw the famous Welsh fireflies, something you’ll have to discover for yourself 🤣. The motto is “Come and make your own history here at The Plas”. We did, and also felt we’d experienced some of its past. Thank you, Howard and Mark. We’ll return, even without a special occasion.

Howard and Mark gave us a wonderful welcome to this stunning house, surrounded by nature. The information buttons dotted around it offered a great glimpse into the history of the house and surrounding area. Our room was beautiful, clean, quiet and extremely comfortable. Breakfast was delicious, and my gluten allergy was very well catered for. We’ll definitely be back.
