I’ve stayed at the RBH twice and both visits were pleasant, with a hearty breakfast each time. It’s a peaceful spot with friendly staff and good value, in a lovely historic building on the Isle of Portland. A great base for exploring the Jurrasic coast. It’s not Claridge's or the Ritz, but I highly recommend The Royal Breakwater Hotel.

I came for the Caribbean food, not an overnight stay, and it was beautifully cooked and didn’t disappoint. They also had gluten-free options, and I really enjoyed the rum punch. Nice summer vibes. The hotel is being renovated at the moment. I was lucky enough to look around a little, and it’s certainly well on its way. The setting is chilled out, with a little beach and car park opposite. I found a nice spot to watch local fishermen catch mackerel. It’s not far from Chesil beach, and Weymouth’s bustle is a short drive away. If you need a taxi at the weekend, I’d book ahead. Street access and the bar entrance are wheelchair friendly. Friendly, helpful staff, a nice atmosphere, and great food. Looking forward to seeing how it progresses.

The hotel was very clean and just what we needed for a wonderful stay. It’s well located, within walking distance of several great attractions and restaurants, and there are plenty of places to visit nearby. Thanks to all the staff at Breakwater Hotel for their professional service and hospitality, and for looking after us. We’ll visit again soon and highly recommend it.

Our room door was left unlocked and wide open by the cleaner for five hours. We were on the ground floor, so we were lucky nothing was stolen. There was only a shared toilet and bathroom, and the broken lock meant someone had to stand guard outside while we used the toilet or showered. The beds were grim and felt 20 years old, and the advertised free WiFi didn’t work in our room. The staff were alright, but I wouldn’t really recommend it.

Friendly staff, comfortable beds, and a nice-sized room at an inexpensive hotel. Our first room hadn’t been cleaned, but they quickly moved us to another. It’s going through changes of ownership. The location is handy, with a pay car park opposite and the Portland waterfront nearby. There’s a leisure centre with a fab pool, Portland Castle, and the D Day Museum close by. You can walk along an old railway or drive to Portland Museum, the family farm, or Portland Bill. Breakfast was OK, but the sausages were cheap, and we weren’t given the full English with mushrooms and hash browns unless we asked and paid an extra £1.50 each. The bathroom carpet should be replaced with vinyl or something similar. The curtains also need to be heavier, as dawn light came in at five this morning.
