The food was a pleasant surprise. The prawn cocktail and smoked salmon bruschetta starters were 9/10, and the cod with herb breadcrumbs got 8/10. The beef with honey and chilli stir fry was tasty too, about 7/10. The room let things down a bit. It was cramped, the window wouldn’t open, and it was hard to set the radiator temperature. The bed wasn’t very comfortable and the pillows felt flat. We did see rooms with more space, so ours clearly wasn’t one of the best. Still, the staff were friendly and the place had a cosy feel.

We had both meals in the conservatory, with its gorgeous sea views, and the food was great at dinner and breakfast. Dinner came with plenty of choice, and the portions were plentiful. The service was lovely, and we were warmly greeted again in the morning. It was our first time in Portpatrick, and we stayed half board at Harbour House Hotel. Check-in at 3pm was a nice welcome, earlier than the usual 4pm at most places. Our top floor room was warm and cosy, with amazing views over the sea. There’s also a nice outdoor seating area we didn’t get to use, hopefully next visit!

We hadn’t eaten here before, even though I’m regularly in Portpatrick and Stranraer. There were six of us, and everyone was impressed. The food was fantastic, portions were generous, and the chips were proper chips. The Scottish Nachos are well worth a try! We didn’t stay at the hotel, so I can’t comment on that. We ate in the bar because we had dogs with us, and they were very welcome there. The service was great too. I’ll definitely be back for a meal or two.

I had room 6, with a lovely view over the local bay. The room was comfortable and well appointed, and the bar was a great place to sit in the evening. All the staff were lovely. The food was glorious. Breakfast was hearty, and there was a great dinner menu in the restaurant. We were there in December and enjoyed the Christmas menu. What a gem of a hotel, I heartily recommend staying here.

The room was spacious and the view was amazing, and the hotel was lovely overall. The ceilings are very low, though, so tall people like my husband need to keep that in mind. The shower door was broken and had to be lifted to close it. The beds were very small. We were lucky to get one small double and two singles, but as a trio we had to sleep separately because the double wasn’t big enough for two. We brought our little pup, and the hotel was dog friendly. It worked for what we needed over two nights, and we’d visit again.
