Village Hotel Portsmouth

The rooms are a little small, though the beds are comfortable and the en-suite is a good size. I come here regularly for business because the staff are always friendly and helpful. The sports bar, gym, and coffee shop also give the place a lively, busy feel.

I rarely leave a review unless someone has given outstanding service, and Callum did exactly that during the conference I attended here with around 120 other guests. He worked tirelessly to keep the whole event running smoothly, and we felt supported throughout. His commitment to his employer is unusual and reflects well on the Village Hotel and the team around him. Thank you.

The staff were brilliant when I checked in and in the bar, and both the food and breakfast were really good. The location was perfect for our weekend work. My colleagues had a fine room, but mine was grim, and I probably wouldn’t stay again after this. The bed had been made, but it clearly hadn’t been changed before I arrived: there were hairs and stains on the sheet. The light switch beside it was broken, grimy, and didn’t work, and neither did the bedside USB ports. There was also a lot of visible mould where the wall meets the ceiling above the bed. I’m a mould consultant and was in Portsmouth to work on a site about 15 minutes away, so I know what I’m looking at. My room was below the gym, and being woken around 6am didn’t help. I don’t know what went wrong with the room, but it didn’t seem to have been cleaned properly before check-in. The hotel has good facilities, but my experience was bad enough that I’d choose somewhere else.

On a recent business trip, I had a fantastic stay. The location was easy to find and just right, my room was lovely and clean, and service was excellent throughout. I’ll definitely return.
